Your Change Management Advisor for Career and Business Success

When I graduated from cgraduateollege I was NOT a stellar student. To be honest, I could barely maintain a consistent C average. My mom believed I would never graduate and her only hope was in prayer. On the bright side, she knew I was not a quitter.   Thank God for grace and mercy because I did finish. From this experience I learned that graduating with a low GPA does not help when you are looking for a job. However, I was determined to get a job doing somethin
g because my student loan payments would begin sooner than I thought.

  1. Work two jobsVolunteer or request an internship for a company you would like to work for. During the opposite shift get a paid position. This will take up a lot of your time but remember it will not always be this way. Make sure your part time job can also enhance your skill set.
  2. Network with Faculty…Reach out to college professors who also work in your field of choice. Ask if you could assist them in some of their current projects. Make sure you can articulate the value you bring and how your support could help them accomplish more. For example, express how you are more tech savvy and could help them use social media for their work.
  3. If you have a job in an unrelated industry Ask Your Supervisor if you can get trained to fill in when they are off. As a supervisor sub you will acquire transferrable leadership skills that you can add to your resume. Be honest with your supervisor about why you need this leadership experience.

I would not advise you to do anything I have not done in the past and it did serve me well. While in school for my four year degree I always worked at least two jobs and learned how to manage competing priorities. During graduate school I established a relationship with a couple of faculty members who helped me learn a great deal about entrepreneurship and small business. I continue to stay connected to them. Finally, I worked as a supervisor in a retail store in the mall. This experience helped me to gain a different perspective on customer service and how to manage employees.studentloaddebt
